The possible reason for this problem could be that your Firewall(from Windows or an antivirus) is blocking the software. Be sure to allow the software through Firewall. Moreover, it is possible that the capcha server is down. In this case you should probably try again later. If this didn't solve your problem, I suggest you contact the developers through the following official web page.

I access the chat room, and I see my ID and others, but when my friends talk in the room, I can't actually see my words.

This is a Javascript error when you can't see your own text in Yahoo Messenger. To fix the error, you will need to re-register the DLL files. You might try other fixes, but I can say that the below instructions help me as well.
Firstly, uninstall Yahoo Messenger and Java, then download and install CCleaner. Clean the registry items and the temporary or other files that are not in use anymore. Reboot the PC and download the packages again (Messenger & Java). Install them and access Start > Run > iexplore. Go to Tools > Internet Options > Advanced> Reset
After this process, go to Start > Run and type the following commands:
regsvr32 jscript.dll
and then the next one. You should see a Successful message after pressing enter.
regsvr32 vbscript.dll
Restart Yahoo Messenger and type something and you will see it will work correctly.
Firstly, in order to use the voice in chat rooms, go to Start, type dxdiag and open the utility. Click the Audio tab, check your sound card model and download and install the latest drivers available from the developer’s web page. After that, connect a microphone to your computer, launch Y!Supra, join a chat room and enable the voice from the Chat menu:
If you still can’t use the voice feature, right-click the sound icon from System Tray, select Recording Devices, right-click anywhere in the opened window and check the Show Disabled Devices option. Select the Microphone, press the Set Default button, click Properties and select Use this device (Enable) as Device usage.
